My 1st August salad

15'

August 1st is cool, isn't it? A nice day when your parents usually have the day off and therefore an excellent moment to share with them! But did you know that this is a bank holidays, i.e. it concerns the whole of Switzerland, even if we don't speak the same language? It dates back to 1291, when the lords were dressed in tin armour and rode horses! One day, the lords of the three cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden were fed up with being attacked by bad guys who lived near them and were stronger than they were. They said to each other: "What if we promise to help each other when one of us is attacked by the bad guys?" So they went to the plain of Grütli, which was just next door, and promised to unite in case of an attack. When they were attacked, they warned each other by making a big fire that could be seen from far away because mobile phones didn't exist in those days! The salad you are going to make is excellent and it is the Swiss custom of August 1st! Enjoy your meal!
