On 10 October 2024, the Neuchâtel Chamber of Agriculture and Viticulture, in collaboration with the Interprofession du Gruyère (IPG) and Neuchâtel Vins et Terroir (NVT), held the seventh selection of Neuchâtel Gruyère AOP. A distinguished jury comprising journalists, politicians and food experts evaluated a range of cheeses that had achieved scores exceeding 19 out of 20 throughout 2023.

LE GRUYÈRE AOP NEUCHÂTELOIS

Le Gruyère AOP is historically named after the Gruyère region in the Swiss canton of Fribourg, but its area of origin extends from Fribourg to Vaud, Neuchâtel, Jura, and a few communes in the canton of Bern. In Neuchâtel, Le Gruyère AOP is a hallmark of agricultural excellence, adding value at every production stage. Producers deliver high-quality milk twice daily, which is meticulously processed by 15 local cheese dairies according to stringent standards.

9 CHEESES FROM 7 CHEESEMAKERS

Farmers and cheesemakers from Le Cerneux-Péquignot, La Chaux-du-Milieu, Les Ponts-de-Martel, La Joux du Plâne, Chézard-Saint-Martin (organic and traditional), Sagnettes (organic and traditional) and Bayards were nominated for inclusion in the selection. Following a tasting by the jury, Le Gruyère AOP from Cerneux-Péquignot, made by Olivier Baudois, received the highest number of votes among the ten examples of Le Gruyère AOP presented. This milk producers’ association is chaired by Philippe Pochon, while Olivier Baudois oversees the cheese-making process.

Congratulations to Olivier Baudois and the local milk producers’ association for their excellent daily work.
