Le Gruyère AOP from Fromagerie de Grandcour honoured by the Vaud State Council
A superlative cheese to pair with the fine wines of 2025
The State Council of the Canton of Vaud has selected Le Gruyère AOP from Fromagerie de Grandcour as its Cheese of Excellence for 2025. This prestigious recognition celebrates the exceptional craftsmanship of master cheesemaker Jean-Daniel Jäggi and his team of seven local milk producers at the Société de Fromagerie de Grandcour.
Rigorously assessed, the Le Gruyère AOP produced by Mr Jäggi stood out for its exceptional quality, earning an impressive average score of over 19/20 in assessments conducted between May 2023 and April 2024. With its creamy, slightly melting texture, the cheese stands out for its bold flavour and distinct aromas, reflective of the region. As Jean-Daniel Jäggi explains, "Maturing enhances the flavours, giving it a firmer texture and the delightful crystals that please even the most discerning palates."
Already honoured by the State Council in the past, Fromagerie de Grandcour has once again been celebrated for its excellence, solidifying its vital role in Vaud's artisanal heritage. The award-winning Le Gruyère AOP will be paired with two distinguished wines— the barrel-aged Garanoir from Château Le Rosey (AOC La Côte) and Clos Maijoz (AOC Chablais)— at official events throughout the year ahead.
By honouring exceptional products, the Vaud government is reaffirming its commitment to showcasing the region’s rich terroir and local expertise. This award is a well-deserved recognition for Fromagerie de Grandcour and for all the skilled artisans who, day in and day out, uphold the reputation and excellence of Le Gruyère AOP.
