Swiss Cheese Awards 2018

Swiss cheese celebrated last weekend in Lucerne.

The title of Swiss Champion returned to Alpage La Bassine this year, winner of the Gruyère d’Alpage AOP category with its Gruyère d’Alpage AOP from August 2018, refined by Fromco SA. This alpage in the commune of St.Georges is also the home of a year-round Gruyère AOP dairy.

The Gruyère AOP category winner was Mr. Alexandre Guex, a cheesemaker from Chatonnaye whose production is refined by Cremo Von Mühlenen in Guin. This win confirms the excellent results he has had in numerous international contests. 

The presence of Gruyère AOP, and especially Gruyère d’Alpage AOP, in the high rankings of these contests is testament to the excellent overall quality of this noble product. Such accolades serve to encourage those involved to continue the quest for quality put in place 20 years ago when the Protected Designation of Origin, Appellation d’Origine Protégée (AOP) in French, came into force.
