Confrérie du Gruyère Makes First Visit to the U.S.

The Confrérie Will Induct 43 New U.S. Members

New York, NY – The Confrérie du Gruyère, or Brotherhood of Gruyère, will visit New York on Friday, June 24 to hold an induction ceremony for 43 U.S.-based partners. The event, to be held at the New York Hilton Midtown, will mark the first time in its history that the Confrérie will visit the U.S. More than 150 members will travel from Switzerland, including the Confrérie Choir, who will share local songs of the Gruyère region. The Confrérie was formed in 1981 to protect and promote authentic Gruyère AOP Switzerland. Nowadays its main role is to honor the people caring and promoting this ancient product, Gruyère AOP. The United States has always been a great consumer of Gruyère AOP, so as a way of thanking both the U.S. consumers and those in the trade who helped make this possible, it was decided that a USA Chapter of the Confrérie should be formed. At the ceremony, inductees will swear their attachment to the product and confess their true belief in Gruyère AOP.
The production of Gruyère AOP is a very old and beautiful tradition; those currently involved with producing, promoting and protecting it are only a small part of its life. The respect we share is the true beauty of Gruyère AOP.
Gruyère AOP is a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) cheese produced in 170 dairies located in only 5 regions around the town of Gruyères in Western Switzerland. The production and the maturation is defined in the Swiss law, and all Gruyère AOP producers must follow these rules – they have not changed over the entire 900+ year history of production, going back to 1115 A.D.  Gruyère AOP is 100% Natural, free of additives, and naturally gluten- and lactose-free.
